The police of the Poltava region completed an official investigation into the improper performance of duties by police officers in the case of rape of a 12-year-old boy with a stick on the beach in Kotelva.

According to the results of the investigation, 10 police officers were brought to disciplinary action. Two of them, in particular the chief of the local police department, were fired, reported police of Poltava Region.

The official investigation lasted from August 30 and aimed to check how the policemen who were supposed to guarantee security in the area acted.

As reported ombudsman Dmytro Lubinets, the parents of the injured boy previously appealed to the police in Kotelv with a complaint about rape, but the police brought the parents of the two minor offenders to administrative responsibility for “hooliganism”.

After public publicity and the intervention of the Commissioner for Human Rights, the Prosecutor’s Office initiated an official investigation regarding police officers who were involved in the case of beating and rape of a minor.

“What happened in Kotelva is unacceptable, and employees who committed disciplinary offenses must be held accountable“, said Chief of Police of Poltava Oblast Yevhen Rohachev after completion of official investigation.

Law enforcement officers emphasized that the principle of integrity is the basis of their activities, and work on improving discipline control will continue.
