Stand-up comedian Maria Markova was banned from entering Latvia

The authorities of Latvia have banned Russian actress and stand-up comedian Maria Markova from entering the country. This happened on the eve of her concert, which was supposed to take place in Riga on September 13. The concert has been cancelled.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Latvia, Baiba Braže, wrote on X social networks that the Latvian Ministry of Foreign Affairs declared Markova persona non grata. In her statement, she called the actress “a propagandist from the TNT channel.” Markova participates in the program “Women’s stand-up” on TNT.

Markova herself has not yet commented on Latvia’s decision.

  • In March 2023, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Latvia added 35 Russian citizens who supported Russian aggression in Ukraine to the list of persons non grata.
  • In the list of undesirable persons, the Latvian authorities included the former “ambassador” of the so-called “LPR” in Moscow Rodion Myroshnyk, performers Yaroslav Dronov (Shaman), Akim Apachev (Hasanov), Natalya Kachura, Nadezhda Babkina, Alexander Marshal, TV presenters Lera Kudryavtseva and Yulia Baranovskaya, journalists Mikhail Shakhnazarov and Yulia Vityazeva.
