The bullet hit near the heart: a soldier from Donetsk returned to the front after being seriously wounded

A serviceman who was seriously injured in mid-February 2023 when a bullet lodged near his heart has recovered and returned to the front. The story of the army soldier Vitaly was told in the National Guard of Ukraine. The man does not have a nickname, but his brothers call him “Viktorovich”. “I’m 54 years old, I come from Pokrovsk, Donetsk region. I worked as a miner, I was a journeyman. That’s why I’ve already retired, she was a miner earlier,” Vitaly says about himself. During a combat mission, the man was wounded in the chest. He remembers that then he felt a sharp burning pain in the area of the heart and saw the discharge of blood with coughing. Photo: National Guard of Ukraine Later, doctors took an X-ray and saw that the bullet had passed through the left shoulder and the left lung, a few millimeters from the heart. “But about this case, almost all mass media reported what was inside of Viktorovych – the whole country saw it!” – say Vitaly’s brothers. Photo: National Guard of Ukraine The man underwent an operation at the Khmelnytskyi City Hospital, during which the surgeons recovered the bullet. According to the National Guard, after his recovery, they wanted to declare Vitaly unfit for military service, but the man decided to return to the combat unit of the 5th Slobojan Brigade of the National Guard, where he served until his injury. The National Guard added that the man was mobilized back in 2015, but was immediately commissioned due to his health. Everyone is working for our common victory. There are already three boys and two girls, and we are expecting another girl soon.
