The CGZ told how many people have been bitten by snakes since the beginning of the year
Since the beginning of the year, 52 people, including 15 children, have been bitten by snakes in Ukraine. At the same time, there were no fatalities, reports the Public Health Center. “As of August 31, 2023, in Ukraine, according to the data of territorial administrations, health care departments and institutions, which were provided to the Public Health Center, 52 applications for medical assistance due to snake venom injuries were registered,” the institution notes. Appeals were registered in the following regions: Lviv and Zhytomyr – 13 cases each; Poltava – 8 cases; Zakarpattia – 5 cases; Dnipropetrovsk, Rivne and Chernivtsi – 3 cases each; Kyivska – 2 cases; Ivano-Frankivsk and Chernihivsk – 1 case each. The state institution assumes that Ukrainians began to spend less time in nature due to the security situation and demining of territories. How to protect yourself from snakebites. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has provided recommendations on how to protect yourself from snakebites: choose clothes that will protect against bites: long tight pants and high boots; check the stopping place – rattle, tap with a stick to scare the snake if it is there; do not touch untested objects with your hands; if you notice a snake, do not make sudden movements and do not approach it, try not to move and wait for it to crawl away, after which slowly move away; do not try to catch or kill the snake, because these reptiles mostly show aggression only in case of danger, emphasizes the Central Hospital.
