The court arrested Oleksandr Sinko, who confessed to the murder of the activist
The Kalininsky district court in St. Petersburg sent Alexander Synko to pretrial detention, who yesterday confessed to the murder of opposition activist Vitaly Ioffe. The meeting was held behind closed doors – according to the court secretary, because details related to intimate life could be revealed.
Sonko, who sometimes also calls himself Alexandra and defends transgender people, admitted his guilt. Shortly after the murder, he showed photos of Ioffe’s body with knife wounds on his Telegram channel and announced that he planned to commit suicide. After a few hours, he surrendered. According to him, Ioffe tried to rape him, and he defended himself.
Ioffe’s daughter, Elena, told the Bumaga publication that her father and Synko knew each other and often communicated. Elena Ioffe herself supported Sinko in his advocacy for the rights of transgender people.
- 53-year-old Vitaly Ioffe opposed the annexation of Crimea, and since the beginning of Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine, he has consistently opposed the war. He participated in protest rallies and went on single pickets in support of political prisoners accused of fakes and repeated “discrediting” of the army.
