The court blocked three VK posts for “childfree propaganda”

The court in the Tver region recognized as prohibited and decided to block three posts on the VKontakte social network that published memes about childfree – voluntary refusal of children. The decision was made on August 23. The publication “Verstka” drew attention to it.

The prosecutor’s office demanded that the public be blocked. According to the department, the information in these communities “contradicts the goals and objectives of the current legislation, harms the morals of citizens.”

We are talking about the “Childfree-HUMOR” public, which is subscribed to by 126 users, as well as the public “childfree” with 42 subscribers and “Childfree” with 18 subscribers. It is noted that the communities were inactive recently.

Earlier, the speaker of the Federation Council, Valentina Matviyenko, said that she supports a full legislative ban on “childfree movement”.

  • This is not the first time that Russian officials have spoken about the prohibition of the “childfree movement”. In July of this year, Deputy Minister of Justice Vsevolod Vukolov announced the development of bills “to prevent the spread of childfree”, and the State Duma sent a letter to the Ministry of Justice with a request to ban the “childfree movement”, despite the fact that formally no childfree movement exists.
  • The draft law prohibiting the dissemination of information on the promotion of voluntary renunciation of children among minors was introduced in the fall of 2022, but already in March 2023 the document was withdrawn from consideration.
  • The term Childfree began to be actively used in the 1970s as an alternative to childless. Ego was used when it came to people who consciously decided not to have children.
