The first blogger in the world with a billion subscribers
Portuguese football player Cristiano Ronaldo became the first in the world, a blogger who has gained a billion subscribers on the Internet. This is the total number of subscribers to his pages in different social networks: X, Instagram, Facebook, YouTube, as well as on the Chinese platforms Weibo and Kuaishou.
The BBC clarifies that a billion subscribers does not mean a billion people: one and the same person can be subscribed to Ronaldo’s accounts in different social networks (each subscription is counted as a separate user). In addition, some subscriptions can be made from fake accounts, so-called bots.
American singer Selena Gomez ranks second in terms of the number of subscribers in the world. Its pages are followed by 690 million people. In third place is Ronaldo’s rival in terms of popularity, another football star – Argentine Lionel Messi (623 million). Following them in the top five are singers Justin Bieber (607 million subscribers) and Taylor Swift (574 million).
The total number of fans of Ronaldo on the Internet increased dramatically last month, when the footballer opened his YouTube channel. There, he posts videos of his life, primarily conversations with his wife Georgina and his friend, a football player from Manchester United, Rio Ferdinand. Although the interlocutors speak in Portuguese or Spanish, the videos are dubbed into English, which is more accessible to an international audience. Already in the first week of the channel’s operation, more than 50 million viewers subscribed to it.
