The former mayor of Sochi, who had previously gone to war in Ukraine, was detained
In the Russian-controlled Luhansk, the former mayor of Sochi, Alexei Kopaigorodsky, was detained. This is reported by Mash, claiming that a criminal case has been initiated against him, under which article – it is not specified. An “Interfax” source in the law enforcement agencies confirmed that the former mayor of Sochi was detained and transferred to Moscow. According to the source, an investigation is underway against the ex-mayor of Sochi. The arrest and the criminal case have not yet been officially announced.
The source of RIA “Novosti”, in turn, reported on the searches of the former mayor of Sochi, Oleg Burlev, and the head of the Khostinsky district of the city, Ivan Savin. The Investigative Committee is also interrogating Kopaigorodsky’s wife Anastasia Hredina.
According to “Nastoyaschee Vremya”, until 2013 Kopaigorodsky served in the Russian army, after which he came to power. In 2019, he became the mayor of Sochi, and in May 2024, he left the post of mayor of his own accord. It was reported that he was moving to one of the federal agencies, but this information was not confirmed.
In mid-September, it became known that Kopaigorodsky had gone to war in Ukraine and joined one of the volunteer battalions.
