The Verkhovna Rada adopted a draft law on biological post-traumatic motherhood and fatherhood for military personnel. It enables soldiers to preserve their reproductive cells in case of injury. This will be introduced in case of loss of reproductive functions due to injury, trauma or contusion. The authors of the draft law calculated the cost of sperm collection. One procedure costs about 450 hryvnias for men and about 1,425 hryvnias for women. Additional funding for this is not necessary, the authors of the draft law claim, since state funds are redistributed due to the mass departure of Ukrainians abroad. “Injuries deprive these citizens of the opportunity to become biological parents, which significantly limits the right to parenthood or motherhood. This problem is especially relevant for young people,” the explanatory note says. At the same time, the draft law does not ensure posthumous paternity or maternity. In addition, the draft law provides for the expansion of medical care and rehabilitation measures for military personnel and police officers who perform official duties in areas of military operations.
