The Krasnodar police started an investigation of the karaoke club “La Major” due to the inclusion in the track list of Verka Serdyuchka’s song “Gulyanka”, the chorus of which contains the words “Ukraine is not dead yet”. The club’s employees said that they do not know how the song ended up in the track list, and that in principle, the club does not allow songs in Ukrainian to be performed.

The inspection was reported by the Shot Telegram channel. Later, the press service of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Krasnodar Territory confirmed the inspection of the publication “Kommersant – Kuban”. It is not known on what basis the inspection is being conducted. As Kavkaz.Realii clarifies, neither the anthem of Ukraine nor the song “Hulyanka” are included in the federal list of extremist materials.

Verka Serdyuchka is the stage name of Ukrainian artist Andrey Danylko. His funny songs are popular among the Russian audience. Danylko sings in Russian, but the first line of the Ukrainian national anthem is quoted in the song “Holianka”: “Songs are pouring, wines are pouring / And glasses are clinking in time. / Ukraine is not dead yet, / If we play like this!”

  • Previously, Kavkaz.Realii wrote that over the past eight years, almost two dozen Ukrainian national and cultural societies have closed in southern Russia and the Northern Caucasus, according to open sources. During this time, only one such center was created – but it does not accept those who “sympathize with Ukraine”. Those societies that continue to exist are sometimes criticized for insufficient support for the war.
  • In June 2022, an activist of the Circassian national movement Kase Kyk was detained after he ordered a karaoke song in Ukrainian in a cafe in Cherkessk, and was tortured, forcing him to confess to ties with foreign states and the Russian opposition, and then arrested for seven days for petty mischief. After his arrest, Kase Kik left Russia.
