The Ministry of Internal Affairs requested from the military enlistment offices data on those who recently received citizenship of the Russian Federation
The Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia has requested data from the military enlistment offices on persons who have recently received Russian citizenship and who have not entered the military register. This was reported by the representative of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, Irina Volk, in her Telegram channel on Thursday. Volk also stated that for 8 months of 2024, 1,117 naturalized persons lost their Russian citizenship “due to their illegal actions”.
The law on revocation of acquired citizenship in case of refusal to register for the military was signed by Vladimir Putin on August 8. According to this law, a foreigner who has received Russian citizenship must enter the military register within two weeks after registration at the place of residence.
The law was adopted against the backdrop of the war in Ukraine. The head of the Investigative Committee, Alexander Bastrykin, said in June that about 10,000 migrants who received Russian citizenship became participants in the war as part of the Russian army. Since the beginning of the war, cases of raids in places of compact residence of migrants have been repeatedly reported, as a result of which some of them were handed summonses to the military enlistment office. They also tried to recruit foreign citizens, offering them to conclude contracts. The number of raids increased after the March terrorist attack in Crocus City Hall near Moscow, which killed 140 people. According to the investigation, the terrorist act was committed by four citizens of Tajikistan, about 20 people are accused in the case.
According to the International Organization for Migration, there are 12 million migrants on the territory of Russia, most of whom came from the states of Central Asia.
Since the beginning of 2024, employees of the Ministry of Internal Affairs have deported more than 65 thousand foreign citizens from Russia, and also closed entry to the country for 120 thousand migrants. The flow of migrants to Russia fell to a 10-year low against the background of the country’s personnel crisis.
