The NAU called the students’ complaint about the mandatory English test “marasom”.
The non-governmental organization “Red Huber” complained to the Ministry of Education and Science because the National Aviation University introduced mandatory testing of students’ knowledge of the English language.
The organization believes that this allegedly violates the rights of students, acting rector of NAU Ksenia Semenova said.
After that, the Ministry of Education and Culture sent a letter to the university with a request to provide clarifications and proposals regarding the introduced testing.
In response to this, the head of the institution explained that engineering education is impossible without knowledge of English, as well as international mobility and internships in good companies.
Also, they will not be able to invite Western professors to the students if they do not know a foreign language.
“Teaching all students English in the same way is stupidity. Because after school, everyone has a different level of English. Therefore, those who do not know the language at all should be taught from scratch. Those who speak it well should be helped to maintain their level.
In order to understand what the student’s level is, he must pass the test. He is not given any grade for this. But in this way, students are divided into groups according to their level.” Semenova wrote.
According to her, similar testing of students is conducted, in particular, by the Kyiv School of Economics and NaUKMA.
“The NGO “Chervony Huber” believes that this violates the rights of students. To be honest, some NAU students are not satisfied either. There are people who entered here to get a diploma, not to study.
ChG writes a malicious letter to the Ministry of Education and Culture about this grandiose violation. MES asks us to answer this. Of course, my team has nothing else to do. Therefore, the answer to this request will be written by ChatGPT.” – says the acting rector.
In the end, Semenova said that not all educational public organizations are useful, and called “Red Huber” “pests” whose “madness goes beyond the limits.”
We will remind, earlier the head of NAU told what problems need to be solved at the university.
