The nuclear power plant is completely de-energized due to Russian shelling – this is a threat with radiation consequences

Literally Energoatom: “On March 9, at 3:53 a.m., the last line of communication between the occupied Zaporizhzhia NPP and the Ukrainian power system was cut off as a result of rocket fire from the Rashtists.

Currently, the station is de-energized and has gone into blackout mode for the sixth time during the occupation.”

NAEK noted that the 5th and 6th power units are being transferred to a cold state.

So far, 18 diesel generators have been switched on to power the ZNPP’s own needs. But there is fuel for their work only for 10 days.

“If it is impossible to renew the external power supply of the station during this time, an accident with radiation consequences for the whole world may occur.”

NAEK also reported that all Ukrainian nuclear power plants have reduced power due to the threat of missile attacks.

Due to the occupation of the ZNPP and the interference of Rosatom representatives in its work, the possibilities of the Ukrainian side to maintain its work in a safe mode are significantly limited.

Energoatom emphasizes that currently the international community should make every effort to ensure that the occupiers withdraw their troops from the territory of the ZNPP and hand it over to the full control of Ukraine.

NAEC emphasizes that this is the only way to restore the nuclear, radiation and physical safety of this nuclear facility.
