The death toll from the earthquakes in Turkey and Syria that occurred on February 6 reached 50,000. This is reported by Reuters.

Turkey has begun reconstruction of houses: as a result of the earthquake, more than 160,000 buildings, in which there were 520,000 apartments, were destroyed or damaged.

The country’s authorities said that 313,000 tents were set up for the victims and 100,000 container houses are planned to be built. According to Turkish Interior Minister Suleiman Soylu, the investigation into construction contractors suspected of violating safety standards has been expanded: 564 suspects have been identified, 160 people have been officially arrested.

  • On the night of February 6, an earthquake with a magnitude of 7.8 occurred in southeastern Turkey and northwestern Syria. Thousands of residents of the affected cities were left homeless, thousands of buildings were destroyed, including hospitals, schools and apartment buildings. A state of emergency has been declared in Turkey for three months.
