Language ombudsman Taras Kremin called on the authorities of Odesa and Odesa region to expand the network of Ukrainian language courses. This is stated on the page of the Commissioner for the Protection of the State Language. According to him, there are more than 450 free Ukrainian language learning sites in Ukraine. Only 18 of them are in Odesa. “We need to work to significantly increase the network of language courses in Odesa and the Odesa region,” said Taras Kremin. Every university, every library must have free courses and conversation clubs financed from local budgets,” the Commissioner emphasized. Taras Kremin also reported that in 2022, the Commissioner’s Secretariat received 186 reports regarding violations of the requirements of the Law of Ukraine “On Ensuring the Functioning of the Ukrainian Language as a State Language”, which concerned the Odesa region. As of March 13, 2023, there are already 87 appeals from citizens. Taras Kremin called the spheres of education, service, transport and violations of the language law by representatives of local authorities and self-government bodies “the most problematic” in the Odesa region.
