The paramedic was given 9 years in the case of plans to join the Legion “Freedom of Russia”

The court in Krasnogorsk, near Moscow, sentenced paramedic Ivan Kolosov to nine years in prison in the case of plans to join the “Freedom of Russia” legion fighting on the side of Ukraine. This is reported by “Caution, News” from the courtroom.

It is reported that 35-year-old Kolosov was tried on the charge of preparing to participate in an illegal armed formation, which the Russian authorities consider to be the Svoboda Rossii legion. The paramedic will spend the first four years in prison, the rest in a high-security colony.

Kolosov was detained in the spring of 2023. Law enforcement agencies drew attention to him due to the fact that he participated in chats about the Legion. A search was conducted in Kolosov’s apartment, during which, as reported, they found Ukrainian flags and stickers with the symbols of the legion, as well as a camouflage jacket and accessories for the campaign – they were considered property documents and it was decided to confiscate them into the state’s income, “Ostrozhno, novosti” clarifies.

Earlier, “Mediazona”, having spoken with Kolosov’s acquaintances, reported that he did not admit guilt.

In December 2022, Kolosov was fined 30,000 rubles under the article on discrediting the army for a comment about a “Russian warship”. “Mediazona” found out that the denunciation of Kolosov was written by his colleague. At the same time, subscriptions to anti-war channels were found in Kolosov’s possession.

  • According to “OVD-Info” estimates, eight people have been charged with participation in an illegal armed formation. In total, at least 1,060 people are being prosecuted for their anti-war stance.
