The EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs stated that the training of Ukrainian pilots on American F-16 fighter jets has already begun Josep Borrell. However, the Armed Forces say that preparations for the start of the exercises are still underway. The spokesman of the Air Force said this on the air of the telethon Yuriy Ignat.

According to Borrell, training will continue in Poland in particular

“I am glad that finally in several countries pilot training for the F-16 has begun,” Borrell was quoted as saying by the France-Presse news agency. “It will take time, but the sooner the better.” Borrell spoke about this during a meeting of EU defense ministers.

At the same time, NATO declares that the training of Ukrainian pilots on the F-16 does not make the Alliance a party to the conflict.

“Supporting Ukraine through F-16 fighter pilot training does not make NATO and NATO allies a party to the conflict,” Stoltenberg said on Tuesday.

The head of the Alliance welcomed the Allies’ decision to start training Ukrainian pilots on F-16 fighter jets.

“This is an important step that will allow us, in part, to deliver fighters at some stage, but also send a very clear signal that we are there for the long term,” he said.

Stoltenberg reminded that the right to self-defense is enshrined in the UN Charter, and NATO, in turn, has the right to help Ukrainians defend themselves from Russia’s aggressive war without becoming a party to the conflict.

Minister of Defense of the Netherlands Kaysa Ollongren reported earlier that the coalition of countries that will train Ukrainian pilots includes the efforts of Denmark, Belgium, Great Britain and others.

Germany stated that it cannot participate in the training process because it does not have F-16 aircraft, the publication informs Defense Post.

As reported by the Voice of America, representatives of the European countries that have pledged to help equip Ukraine with Western-made combat aircraft say that after the US agreement regarding the F-16 fighter jets, they intensified their cooperation in organizing the training of Ukrainian pilots, but they are not yet talking about the terms of delivery of the aircraft.

At the meeting of defense ministers of the EU states in Brussels on May 23, the fulfillment of the European promise to provide the Ukrainian army with one million units of ammunition was also called a priority.
