The Rewilding Europe photo award showed the 5 best nature pictures in 2024
“Iberian lynx”. This photo was the main winner of the 2024 Rewilding Europe Award
Staffan Widstrand
The Rewilding Europe Award photo prize determined the best photos on the topic of rewilding – the return of wild species to the natural environment.
In 2024, the main award went to a picture by Swedish photographer Staffan Widstrand called “Iberian Lynx”, informs organization Rewilding Europe.
The Iberian or Spanish lynx got into the artist’s lens when it held its prey in its teeth.
According to the jury, this photo demonstrates the resurgence of the population of one of Europe’s most iconic predators and highlights the importance of the “dynamics of the relationship” between predator and prey.
“Staffan’s photography perfectly captures the magic of rewilding. His images are not just about the beauty of the lynx. They are about restoring the health and functionality of nature, and the broad benefits of returning a species that can help shape the environment.”says Lorien Holtier.
“Environment of Danube salmon”
Bernhard Schubert/Rewilding Europe Award
The second award in this year’s competition went to Bernhard Schubert with his work “Environment of the Danube Salmon”. The jury says that Schubert’s “vibrant river ecosystem that comes to life illustrates the transformative power of rivers.”
“Seeds of Hope”
Lewis Jefferies/Rewilding Europe Award
Another work that made it to the list of the best this year is “Seeds of Hope” by Lewis Jefferies. This picture captures the efforts of conservationists to preserve sea grasses, the only flowering plants that grow in the marine environment.
“Hope for the future of our rivers”
Arthur de Bruin/Rewilding Europe Award
The photo award also recognized the work “Hope for the future of our rivers” by Arthur de Bruin, who filmed the release of sturgeons into one of the rivers of Europe.
“King of the East”
Florian Smit/Rewilding Europe Award
Florian Smith’s work “The King of the East” was also included in the selection. The photo shows a majestic European bison in the Bialowieza Forest National Park in Poland.
The Rewilding Europe Award is awarded as part of the European Wildlife Photographer of the Year competition organized by the German Society of Nature Photographers.
The best entries from this year’s Rewilding Europe Award will be recognized at the European Wildlife Photographer of the Year 2024 award ceremony during the GDT International Nature Photography Festival from 25 to 27 October.
