The State Bureau of Investigation handed over the suspicion to the former head of one of the departments of the Ministry of Energy and Coal Industry, and the suspicion was changed to the former head of the ministry Ihor Nasalik.

According to the version of the investigation, on the instructions of Nasalik, the head of the department subordinate to him entered into agreements with the structures of a well-known businessman that were known to be harmful to the state.

By circumventing the government’s decision, officials artificially “deducted” funds from businessmen for the exploitation of state property, as a result of which the budget from May 2017 to December 2020 was underpaid by almost UAH 1.5 billion, the State Bureau of Investigation established.

Previously, UP reported that in February, the SBI served a charge of 1.5 billion hryvnias on ex-Minister of Energy Ihor Nasalik, who was suspected of signing deals that were harmful to the state in favor of companies related to oligarch Dmytro Firtash, under the article about “official negligence.”

However, as a result of the investigation, Nasalik was charged with “abuse of official position”. The investigation claims that he committed the specified crime in a prior conspiracy with an ex-expert from the Department of the Ministry of Energy and Coal.

The sanction of the article provides for a punishment of up to six years of imprisonment. The pre-trial investigation is ongoing.
