The State Service for Emergency Situations of Ukraine told the story of Arni, a sapper dog – he helps rescuers demine Ukrainian lands.

Andrii Balashov, a dog expert toldthat his favorite has been working with him for two years – the third rotation in a row – and has shown himself very well at work.

“Arnie has proven himself very well in the search for explosive objects. He already has more than 40 munitions that the dog managed to detect – artillery shells, mines, grenades“, Balashov noted.

The rescuers say that the four-legged sapper especially distinguished himself in the Mykolayiv region: there he helped find an anti-tank mines even in difficult conditions.

“Arnie remains a loyal and humble hero, relentlessly saving lives.” – the State Emergency Service claims.

According to Dmytro Kudashkin, the head of the special mine-detection group, the advantage of a mine-detection dog is its ability to react only to the smell of an explosive substance, i.e., to vapors from the soil emitted by a dangerous munition. Arnie can detect explosive objects at different depths.

Kudashkin says that a dog can “survey” an area of about 800 square meters in a day. This significantly speeds up the process of demining Ukrainian lands.

We will remind you that we used to do the same told about the Doberman dog Hanna, who has been working as a rescue worker for several years. She participates in search missions with the State Emergency Service, the military and the police.
