The Ukrainian authorities announced the mandatory evacuation of Kupyansk

The Ukrainian authorities announced the mandatory evacuation of civilians from the city of Kupyansk, Kharkiv region, as well as from three neighboring front-line districts – the villages of Kondrashovka, Petropavlovka, and Kurilyvka.

The head of the military administration of the region, Oleg Sinegubov, explained this decision by the “deterioration of the military situation” and the fact that the authorities “cannot ensure the heating season, the supply of electricity, and the provision of humanitarian aid, since the enemy is shelling critical infrastructure, the restoration of which is now impossible.”

Kupyansk is a major railway hub in eastern Ukraine, located 116 kilometers from Kharkov. Russian troops captured the city almost immediately after the start of the full-scale invasion of Ukraine – at the end of February 2022. In the autumn of the same year, the Armed Forces managed to fight back the ego. Now the Russian army is again trying to capture Kupyansk, going to the outskirts of the villages on the banks of the Oskol River, which divides the city in half.

Before the start of the full-scale war, more than 50,000 people lived in the Kupyansk district, and more than 25,000 lived in the city of Kupyansk. According to Oleg Synegubov, there are currently about four thousand civilians on the left, eastern bank of the Oskol River, which the Russian army has approached closely.
