The USA announced sanctions against the hacker group Evil Corp
The United States on Tuesday introduced new sanctions against Russia related to cyber security. The message is posted on the website of the US Department of Finance.
The text says that the Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) is blacklisting seven individuals and two organizations associated with the Russia-based cybercriminal group Evil Corp. Restrictions are introduced in coordination with the Foreign Office of Great Britain and the leadership of Australia.
The US Treasury notes that in December 2019, Evil Corp itself, its leader Maksym Yakubets and more than a dozen members of the group, its intermediaries and subsidiary structures came under OFAC restrictions. Great Britain and Australia are now simultaneously adding to their “blacklists” some persons associated with Evil Corp, who were sanctioned by the American authorities either in 2019 or at the moment.
“Today’s tripartite actions underscore our shared commitment to protecting against cybercriminals, including those responsible for ransomware, which seek to undermine our critical infrastructure and threaten our citizens,” the US Treasury Department said.
