What is the Golden Jig
“Golden Dziga” – the Ukrainian national film award, founded in 2017 by the Ukrainian Film Academy. Awarded for professional achievements in the development of Ukrainian cinema, since 2021 the award has 24 nominations.
The main symbol of the National Film Award is the “Golden Dzyga” statuette, which is awarded to the winners. It symbolizes the rapid and unceasing development of Ukrainian cinematography. The author of the statue’s design, the Ukrainian artist Nazar Bilyk, described the “Golden Dzyga” as follows:
“The main element of the composition is a frame from a movie film, a golden quadrangle that dynamically rotates, personifying the cinema. The shape of the statuette resembles a fire, a sprout, which are symbols of the development and renewal of national cinema“.
The sixth National Film Award was to be held in 2022 and celebrate the best films released the previous year. But in connection with the beginning of the full-scale invasion, the voting by the members of the Ukrainian Film Academy, which determined the winners, took place a year later.
The winners of the seventh prize were announced online. A rather unusual format was chosen for this – one or two winners were announced every day on social networks for a month.
