There is a shortage of donors with a negative Rh factor in blood service centers – Ministry of Health

Blood service centers throughout Ukraine lack donors who have Rh-negative blood. There are few such donors, the Ministry of Health reports. According to the agency, no more than 14% of Ukrainians, like Europeans, have a negative Rh blood factor. “At the same time, we draw your attention to the fact that in critical situations, in case of massive blood loss for victims with any phenotype, erythrocytes or blood of rhesus-negative O (I) group can be used as the first dose,” the message reads. To become a donor, you need to call the nearest blood center in your city or a nearby city. Current telephone numbers of blood centers are available at the link. You can also sign up for the online register of blood donors on the Helsi or Donor websites. If you work in a team where there are many willing to donate blood, you can invite an on-site team to collect blood. Read also: How and who can become a blood donor?
