The front-line town of Chasiv Yar in the Donetsk region, located 12 km west of Bakhmut, is being shelled by the Russians from three sides. There is no water, gas, and in some places electricity in Chasovoy Yar, but people still live there. This is stated in the plot of the “Ukrainian Witness” project. Volunteers organize humanitarian aid and water for local residents. Volunteer Victor said that before the full-scale invasion of Russia, he had his own health food store, but after February 24, 2022, he started delivering gum aid to people in hot spots. “I want to be useful to the state. And I understand that there is a big gap between the west and the east of Ukraine, and this is how this wound is being treated. It was artificially made, and we have to treat it in such conditions,” says Viktor. Another local resident, Igor Hayov, was met by journalists while he was walking his dog. The man said that he was born in Chasovoy Yar and worked in the city for 16 years on an excavator. “My house was destroyed. A Russian projectile flew there when I went out with my dog, I managed to go around the corner. Now I live with my mother,” says Igor. The man does not want to leave the city, so as not to leave the elderly woman alone. Another local resident, Alla Oleksandrivna, lives with her son. The woman said that it is difficult to live without water and gas, but she does not want to evacuate. “If there were windows, they would fly out. My window was covered with an old sheet. For 45 years, she worked as a crane operator in Chasovoy Yar. “We have no money to leave. And who needs us there?” – she emphasizes. The Invincibility Point operates in the city. Igor also takes care of his elderly mother, who does not want to leave the city.
