Three Canadian organizations have been declared undesirable in Russia

On Monday, the General Prosecutor’s Office of Russia added three organizations from Canada to the list of so-called undesirable organizations. These are the Russian-Canadian Democratic Alliance, the Norman Patterson School of Foreign Affairs and the Munk School of International Affairs and Public Policy.

In addition, it is reported on the website of the Ministry of Justice that the organization “Russians Against War Antalya” (Russians Against War Antalya), registered in Turkey, is also considered “undesirable”.

The Munk School of International Affairs and Public Policy is an academic center at the University of Toronto. He deals with the problems of globalization, his students receive diplomas in the field of political science, international economics and international law. Among the master’s degree programs is a program for studying Europe, Eurasia and Russia.

The Norman Patterson School of Foreign Affairs is also a research center at Carleton University in Ottawa. This is the oldest faculty of international politics in Canada, it was founded in 1965.

The Russian-Canadian Democratic Alliance is a non-profit organization that promotes the ideals of democracy and human rights in international relations. Its stated goal is to create a platform for democratically minded Russians in Canada. The Alliance opposes all wars ever waged by Russia, including the invasion of Ukraine.

“Russians Against War – Antalya” unites Russian anti-war activists in Turkey and abroad, helps Ukrainian refugees and the armed forces of Ukraine, holds anti-war forums and charity events.

  • Legislation on “undesirable” organizations has been in effect in Russia since 2015. Since then, dozens of foreign structures have been added to the list of such joint ventures. On February 20, it was announced that Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty, which is funded by a Congressional grant through the US Global Media Agency, will be listed as “undesirable”.
  • Entering the “undesirable” register means that the organization is prohibited from operating in the country, and Russian citizens are prohibited from cooperating with it under threat of criminal prosecution.
