The reserve of big cats in Great Britain successfully evacuated three more lionesses from Ukraine – Wanda and sisters Amani and Lira.
About this reported International Fund for Animal Protection (IFAW).
Levytsi was evacuated from Kyiv on September 18 and transported through three countries to Belgium. The animals covered more than 2,000 kilometers on the way. They arrived in Belgium on September 20, where they temporarily settled in local zoos.
Vanda – a one-year-old lioness – was kept as a pet in an apartment in the south-east of Ukraine. She had no access to sunlight and suffered from malnutrition. Wanda is now at Plankendael Zoo.
Sisters Amani and Lira were illegally bred for photos and entertainment. They live temporarily at Pirie Daise Zoo, but will soon be moved to a new home – the Lion Rescue Center in Great Britain.
This is not the first animal rescue operation from Ukraine: in August of this year, two more lions – Yuna and Rory – were evacuated to Great Britain. Yuna currently lives in Kent, where she stepped on grass for the first time in her life, and Rory is still waiting for the completion of the construction of her permanent home in Britain.
Earlier, we reported that due to increased Russian shelling of Kharkiv from the Nemo dolphinarium two beluga whales were evacuated.
