Three people from Novosibirsk were accused of attempted terrorist attack in Barnaul

The FSB charged three residents of the Novosibirsk region, who, according to the special service, were planning to set fire to the election headquarters in Barnaul. They are arrested. This is reported by TASS with reference to the press service of the administration of the Altai Krai.

According to the investigation, the 23-year-old head of the group came to the Altai Territory at the end of last year to work. He contacted a representative of a “terrorist organization banned in Russia”, received the task of organizing a terrorist attack, and then developed a “crime scheme”. He attracted two friends (born in 1998 and 2006) who also adhered to “radical ideology”.

The FSB claims that the accused made “Molotov cocktails” to set fire to one of the regional headquarters before the Russian presidential election in March 2024. They were detained while attempting to commit a terrorist attack, the FSB said. The names of the detainees, the name of the “terrorist organization” and which party the headquarters belonged to are not disclosed.

The FSB released a video recording, probably from a hidden camera. The footage shows three young people in the apartment pouring an unknown liquid into glass bottles, plugging them with pieces of material. How it was possible to get this record is not reported. Judging by the video published by the “Operational Reports” Telegram channel linked to the law enforcement agencies, the detention took place at the headquarters of “United Russia” on Pushkina Street in Barnaul. “Mediazona” found this out by comparing the frames from this video with the panoramas on “Yandex.Maps”.

According to the article about attempted terrorist attack, the accused faces up to 20 years in prison.

  • Presidential elections were held in Russia on March 15-17, 2024. During the three days of voting, several cases of ballot defacement occurred: voters in different regions poured green or paint into ballot boxes, as well as attempted arson. More than 60 criminal cases were initiated, more than 150 administrative protocols were drawn up, the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia said. The majority of criminal cases were initiated under the articles of knowingly false information about a terrorist attack and obstruction of the exercise of voters’ rights.
