Three teachers from the Pereyaslav-Khmelnytskyi State Pedagogical University and the Institute of Training of Personnel of the State Employment Service of Ukraine are accused of academic plagiarism of the works of the Deputy Minister of Education and Science.
About this stated Oleg Smirnov, former associate professor of Sumy State University.
According to him, the scientists published an article which, according to Smirnov, consists almost entirely of other people’s materials without proper citation.
One of the authors of the article is Svitlana Kucherenko, Candidate of Economic Sciences, Associate Professor, Dean of the Faculty of Financial, Economic and Professional Education of Pereyaslav-Khmelnytskyi University. She was also awarded the “Outstanding Education of Ukraine” award.
Her co-author Lyudmila Levayeva is a candidate of economic sciences, an associate professor of the Department of Economics at the same university, and currently holds the position of deputy head of the department.
Another co-author of the article, Nataliya Pryputa, candidate of economic sciences, associate professor of the Department of Theoretical and Applied Economics of the Institute of Training of Personnel of the State Employment Service of Ukraine.
Together they published an article called “Analysis of trends in the development of the service sector in the economy of Ukraine” in 2021 in the scientific publication “Economic Bulletin of the University”. This is a scientific journal of category “B”, registered as a professional publication for the publication of dissertation works.
According to Smirnov, a significant part of the scientists’ article is plagiarism, taken from the works of the Deputy Minister of Education and Science of Ukraine and Doctor of Economic Sciences Andrii Vitrenka.
The reviewers found that the article lacked proper references to Vitrenka’s monograph, although its fragments were used in the main part of the work. In particular, matches were found with his doctoral dissertation “Development of the service sector in the conditions of post-industrial transformations”, which was defended in 2017.
Despite the fact that Vitrenka’s monograph is mentioned in the list of sources, there are no direct references to this source in the text.
According to the “Recommendations on prevention of academic plagiarism” approved by the Ministry of Education and Culture of Ukraine, any reproduction of someone else’s scientific results without proper reference to the author is plagiarism.
“UP. Life” asked the authors of the article for comments and is waiting for their response.
Earlier we told that the Minister of Education and Science of Ukraine Oksen Lisovyi declined to comment the origin of coincidences in his dissertation.
