TikTok has blocked dozens of Sputnik agency accounts

Chinese video hosting TikTok has blocked 37 accounts of the Russian state agency Sputnik and the profile of RT International.

According to RT, in particular, Sputnik International, Sputnik Serbia, Sputnik Afrique, Sputnik Africa, Sputnik Brasil, Sputnik Mundo and Sputnik Indonesia, as well as “Sputnik Abkhazia”, ”Sputnik Armenia”, “Sputnik Belarus”, Sputnik Stories became unavailable .

When trying to switch to these accounts, a notification appears: “Cannot find these accounts”. As RT writes, TikTok did not explain the reason for the blocking.

The blockade occurred against the background of the expansion of US sanctions against Russia. In early September, the United States imposed sanctions against the Rossiya Segodnya media group and its subsidiaries — RIA Novosti, RT, Ruptly, and Sputnik. RT editor-in-chief Margarita Simonyan also fell under restrictions. On September 13, the US authorities accused “Russia Today” and RT of working for the Russian special services.

  • On September 17, the Meta company, which owns the Facebook and Instagram social networks, as well as the WhatsApp messenger, announced the blocking of the Rossii Segodnya media group, RT and other related organizations.
