Ukrainian Pravda released a new English-language podcast The Dictionary of Ukrainian Emotions “). In it, Hollywood actors read excerpts from Ukrainian theater plays.
The first episode focuses on a short play by the playwright Anastasia Kosodiy “How to Talk to the Dead”, written after the start of the full-scale Russian invasion of Ukraine. This work reinterprets the horrors witnessed by the residents of Buchi, Mariupol and other cities affected by the occupiers.
An American actress read the play Alessandra Torresanithe heroine of the series “Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles”, “CSI: Crime Scene Investigation“, American Horror Story”, “Lucifer”, “The Big Bang Theory” and many films.
The actress also spoke with the author of the theatrical piece and the project leader John Friedman.
The podcast was inspired by the anthology “A Dictionary of Emotions in a Time of War”, edited and translated by American writer, editor and theater critic John Friedman and published by Laertes Press under the direction of Nina Camberos.
The first episode ends with an interview with the director of the American publishing house, Nina Kamberos, who shares her experience of publishing a collection of Ukrainian plays written in the first months of the war.

About the collection of theater plays
The texts for the collection were written by members of the Kyiv Playwrights Theater in the spring, summer, and fall of 2022. They were created in the documentary genre and rethink the life of Ukrainians after the start of a full-scale war. Among the texts are reports from Kyiv, Lviv, Mykolaiv, temporarily occupied Kherson, from the front and from refugee shelters in other countries.
The collection included poetry, screenplays, dialogues, diaries, comedies, short stories and memoirs.
