Why did the Ministry of Education and Culture introduce 12-year education in schools: Lisovoy’s answer
From 2027, high school students in Ukraine will study a year longer.
Minister of Education and Science of Ukraine Oksen Lisovyi explained why such changes were introduced in the Ministry of Education and Science.
“Actually, the reform is designed in such a way that you come to the university more prepared. We are currently working with our team of the directorate of higher education and in some areas we foresee a reduction of the bachelor’s degree.
We will announce separately when we come to this decision, but you leave university more prepared. And likewise, if you have chosen a professional college, you enter the labor market already with a profession. Therefore, plus one year and, accordingly, the choice of profiles for which you work”– said Lisovyi at the presentation of the study on the reform of the senior school.
As a reminder, specialized secondary education should start working as a continuation of the NUS reform in 2027.
After the 9th grade, students will be able to enter an academic lyceum, choosing a profile and subjects, and will prepare in depth to acquire a profession.
The MES has already selected 25 schools to pilot the reform of the specialized school. Piloting should begin in September 2025, that is, two years ahead of the implementation of the reform.
Earlier, Oksen Lisovyi said that he considers the reform of the National University of Science and Technology both the biggest achievement and failure of his first year in office.
