He assumed that some of the former members of the Committee, who in March wrote statements about the conclusion of the powers, will work as experts in various areas. Nyschuk reported that he had already identified the main pool of applicants for joining the new Committee, and assumed that it would take him 10-14 days to create it. The new chairman did not name the applicants, but clarified that among them will be representatives of creative unions. Nyschuk also added that both age and gender criteria will be taken into account. The ex-minister emphasized that he will do everything to prevent political influence on the award: “I will do everything so that it does not have any political color or pressure. I definitely have clear thoughts.” Nyshchuk added that the former chairman of the Award Committee Yuriy Makarov promised support in the work. Scandal surrounding the 2023 Shevchenko Prize In 2023, for the first time in the history of the Shevchenko Prize, on March 9, Shevchenko’s birthday, the names of the laureates were not made public, and the corresponding presidential decree announcing the results was not published. Instead, Zelenskyi’s press service spread the news about his meeting with cultural and artistic figures on the occasion of the 209th anniversary of Shevchenko’s birthday. On March 10, the Chairman of the Committee Makarov published a post on his Facebook that they decided to supplement the existing nominations with an additional contest “For Contribution to Victory” and to announce the previously determined laureates and new ones together on May 22, the day of Kobzar’s reburial.
