The court in Moscow ordered 7 years of prison for a pensioner for two comments on the Internet

A hearing on the case of 62-year-old pensioner Mikhail Simonov is taking place in the Tymyryazevsky District Court of Moscow. The state prosecutor requested seven years of imprisonment for him. Simonov is blamed for spreading so-called fakes about the Russian army. The case is based on two comments left by Simonov in VKontakte.

Comments were placed under posts about shelling by Russian troops in Kyiv and Mariupol. Simonov wrote: “We, Russia, have become godless. Forgive us, Lord!” and “Russian pilots bomb children.” According to the indictment, Simonov thus misled the readers regarding the legality of the army’s actions.

The “Mediazon” publication reports that two prosecution witnesses appeared in court. They claimed that after seeing Simonov’s comments, they immediately contacted the hotline of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, because Simonov’s words contradicted the reports of the Ministry of Defense, and they “do not believe in the crimes of the Russian army.”

In recent years, Mikhail Simonov lived in Belarus. On November 9 last year, he came to Moscow and was detained. The Gagarinsky district court placed him in a pre-trial detention center. As noted by SotaVision, the accused “hardly hears and speaks with difficulty.” He emphasized in court that he has numerous diseases, but, despite this, he was kept in custody.
