Discussion “What is happening with the Bureau of Economic Security?”

The Bureau of Economic Security of Ukraine (BEB) was created in order to reboot the system of investigation of economic crimes. Many bodies that had leverage over entrepreneurs were replaced by one body, which, as planned, would focus on analytical activities instead of the usual repressive methods.
BEB was formed in 2021. However, at the end of 2022, a temporary investigative commission of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine was established to investigate possible violations of Ukrainian legislation by officials of the Economic Security Bureau of Ukraine. And already on April 11, 2023, the head of the BEB, Vadym Melnyk, was dismissed from his post.
What went wrong with this reform? What are the guarantees that restarting BEB will produce the desired results? Will the quality work of BEB be enough to normalize relations between the state and taxpayers?
