In Rostov-on-Don, the court sentenced a 17-year-old teenager to six years in prison with a stay in an educational colony, found him guilty of preparing to set fire to the military enlistment office.

According to local media, the accused, whose name has not been disclosed, came to Rostov-on-Don from Krasnoyarsk in 2022, after which he became a “supporter of an extremist organization”, which one is not specified in the investigative materials. He allegedly prepared 13 bottles with incendiary mixture to set fire to the military enlistment office, which, if the investigation is to be believed, were found in his possession during the search.

The teenager himself admitted his guilt at the trial, but at the same time refused to give any testimony.

  • After the beginning of the full-scale Russian invasion of Ukraine, and especially after the announcement by Vladimir Putin of the so-called “partial mobilization”, opponents of the war throughout Russia began to set fire to military enlistment offices, police departments and city administration buildings. Currently, almost a hundred such cases are known. At the same time, no one was injured as a result of the arson.
  • At first, criminal cases of arson were considered under the articles of damage to someone else’s property or hooliganism. Later, the General Staff of Russia announced that such cases would be considered acts of terrorism and would be punishable by up to 15 years in prison. The first sentence, in which the arson of the military enlistment office was qualified as a terrorist act, was handed down at the end of January 2023. Now dozens of citizens have been sentenced to long terms of imprisonment.
