A participant in the war against Ukraine was beaten in a cafe in Transbaikalia

In a cafe in the village of Nerchinsky Zavod (Transbaikalia), a group of unknown people allegedly beat up a participant in military operations against Ukraine. Messages about this first appeared on social networks, later they were confirmed by the governor of the region, Alexander Osypov. It is confirmed that the victim is a disabled person who lost a leg in the fighting, Sibir.Realii reports.

According to Osypov, “persons drinking alcoholic beverages” in the cafe “began to show aggression towards the SVO fighter (special military operation – that’s how the Russian authorities call military operations in Ukraine)”. In social networks, they claim that the villagers, who are suspected of being beaten, during the conflict called the participants in the war “murderers” and snatched awards from them.

Pro-war Telegram channels are particularly active about the incident, demanding to find and punish the participants in the fight who beat up the soldier in Ukraine. They call, in particular, to apply to them the norm on the so-called discrediting of the army. State Duma deputy Alexander Khinshtein, commenting on what happened, claims that “the conflict occurred precisely because of the hostility of young people to the SVO.”

The victim himself contacted the police from the hospital. The Ministry of Internal Affairs stated that during the conflict, in addition to beatings, his car was damaged. “Due to the severity of the harm caused to the citizen, a forensic medical examination has been ordered, based on the results of which a decision will be made,” added the police.

Subsequently, it became known that the Ministry of Internal Affairs initiated criminal cases for intentional damage to property and intentional infliction of minor health damage. In addition, “in the actions of several participants in the conflict” they saw signs of discrediting the army, however, according to this article, they face only administrative responsibility (only the so-called repeated discrediting is punishable in the criminal procedure). In the evening of August 6, the police of Transbaikalia reported the arrest of one of the participants in the fight, a 27-year-old local resident.
