The creator of the “Police Ombudsman” was released from the colony

The creator of the “Police Ombudsman” publication, former policeman Vladimir Vorontsov left colony No. 5 in Kirovo-Chepetsk, Kirov Region. The Telegram channel “Former Opera” was the first to report this. Vorontsov’s release was also confirmed by his lawyer, Mediazona reports.

Vorontsov served a 5-year term of imprisonment and was released due to the expiration of the term.

Vladimir Vorontsov was an operative of the Center for Combating Extremism and resigned from the police in 2017 shortly after he created the “Police Ombudsman” public on the VKontakte social network, which talked about violations of the rights of police officers. Subsequently, political materials of the opposition direction also began to be published in it.

In May 2020, Vorontsov was arrested and sent to a pre-trial detention center. According to the investigation, he demanded 300,000 rubles from a Moscow police officer “for not disseminating intimate photos of himself”, and also published messages defaming the honor and dignity of internal affairs officers. In August 2022, the court found him guilty of distributing pornography, insulting a representative of the government, and extortion and sentenced him to five years in prison. According to like-minded people, Vorontsov was persecuted for protecting ordinary policemen.

In June 2023, Vorontsov was transferred to a colony, from which he has now been released. He was released after 3.5 years of detention, since one day in pre-trial detention center counts as one and a half days in the colony.
