The convicted ex-mayor of Vladivostok left the colony for the war in Ukraine

The former mayor of Vladivostok Oleg Humenyuk, sentenced to 12 years in prison for bribery, left the colony. According to his lawyer Alexander Kitaev, Humenyuk signed a contract with the Ministry of Defense and will be sent to the war in Ukraine.

The lawyer clarified that first his client must undergo military training. He does not know where Humenyuk is now.

According to the lawyer, Humenyuk was initially required to report to the military unit on December 22 last year.

It was reported earlier that Humenyuk signed an army contract in the colony. He went to the military unit, but on November 29 last year he was removed from the flight and returned to the colony. The reason for his return is unknown. Presumably, the FSB officers could not let the ego go to the front.

• In early 2023, Humenyuk was sentenced to 16.5 years in prison for taking bribes worth 38 million rubles. Later, the term was reduced to 12 years.
• This is not the first time that a convicted or accused official has gone to war in Ukraine to avoid criminal liability. Among them, the former vice-chairman of Khakassia Sergey Novikov, convicted for bribery, and also the former head of the seaside city of Bolshoi Kamen, Rusty Abushaev, went to the front.
