The owner of the InDrive taxi service, Arsen Tomsky, added to the list of big businessmen who renounced Russian citizenship. He sharply criticized the country’s leadership in connection with the war in Ukraine.
In his autobiographical book, Tomsky calls the invasion of Ukraine a “crazy adventure” and a “mistake” by President Vladimir Putin. The Russian Service of The Moscow Times writes about it.
In Russia, Tomsky believes, a “backward and inefficient system with a high level of corruption” has been built, which does not allow economic development. Russia’s last big success was in 1961, when Yuri Gagarin flew into space, writes a businessman.
California-based InDrive was founded by Tomsk in 2013. In 2021, the service managed to attract $150 million. Then the market estimated the company’s value at $1.23 billion.
The largest markets where InDrive operates are Kazakhstan, Mexico, Brazil, Colombia and Egypt. As of April 2022, Russia’s share in the total volume of InDrive trips reached 7%.
Recently, the management of InDrive decided to transfer the Russian business to the Kazakh structure “Indels”.
