AST Publishing House suspended payments to Lyudmila Ulytskaya

[ad_1]

The AST publishing house suspended payments to the writer Ludmila Ulytskaya after she claimed to transfer royalties from the sale of books to Ukraine. This was reported in the press service of AST on Thursday.

“In connection with the author’s application for the transfer of the author’s account to Ukraine, the publishing house made a decision to suspend any payments under all contracts with Ulytskaya until the situation is clarified and possible official explanations from the author’s side,” the press service said.

At the end of January, pro-Kremlin “prankers” Vovan and Lexus posted a video on their social networks with Ulytskaya, with whom they spoke, introducing themselves as the head of the office of the President of Ukraine, Andriy Yermak. In the conversation, the writer said, among other things, that the royalties from the sale of her books “go to Ukraine,” Meduza writes.

On January 31, it became known that the Russian Chemical and Technological University deprived Lyudmila Ulytskaya of the title of honorary professor assigned to her in 2021. This was reported by the head of the State Duma committee on culture, Elena Yampolskaya, who applied to the university with a request. According to Yampolskaya, the academic council voted on August 30 last year. The writer is a biologist by education.

  • Lyudmila Ulitskaya’s books – novels, collections of essays and stories, plays, autobiographical prose and others – have been published in AST since 2011.
  • Ulytskaya is the author of the novels “The Case of Kukotsky”, “Daniel Stein, the Translator”, “Medea and Her Children”, “The Green Tent” and others. She is a laureate of many Russian and international literary prizes. Awarded the French Legion of Honor.
  • In December 2023, AST suspended the distribution of books by Boris Akunin and Dmitry Bykov. In the statement on behalf of the director general of the publishing house, Pavlo Hryshkov, it was said that certain public statements of the writers caused a wide public outcry and required a legal assessment. Akunin and Bykov have repeatedly spoken out against the war in Ukraine and the Kremlin’s repressive policy in Russia.
