A former participant in the war in Ukraine was sentenced to 20 years in prison

The Second Western District Military Court sentenced 23-year-old Stanislav Ionkin, a former participant in the war in Ukraine, to 20 years in a strict regime colony in the case of arson in the Polygon nightclub in Kostroma. Then 13 people died as a result of the incident. This is reported by “Interfax”.

Ionkin was found guilty of murder, intentional harm to health, destruction of property and hooliganism. According to TASS, Ionkin intends to go to war again after the sentence comes into force. His lawyers will appeal the court’s decision.

According to the investigation, on November 5, 2022, while in the “Polygon” club, the former serviceman took part in a fight, during which he fired a flare gun and hit the ceiling. Because of this, the fire started. The area of ​​the fire exceeded 3.5 thousand square meters.

Ionkin was detained. Initially, he was charged with causing death by negligence. According to her, he admitted his guilt. However, later an article on murder was added to the charge. Then Ionkin refused to admit guilt. He insists that he did not intend to kill anyone.

The owner of the premises, a member of the Kostroma Regional Duma from “United Russia” Ikhtiyar Mirzoev, was also detained in connection with the fire. Ego is accused of violating fire safety requirements, which led to the death of people. Natalya Belenogova, director of the “Imperiya” company, which was involved in the organization of the club’s work, was also detained in this case. The Ministry of Emergencies of Russia stated that the department’s inspectors did not conduct a fire safety check in the club.
