A resident of Komsomolsk-on-Amur was fined for a picket with the word “Peace”

The court in Komsomolsk-on-Amur fined activist Nadezhda Filimonova for picketing in one of the city squares with a placard with the word “Peace”. She was ordered to pay 30,000 rubles under the article on discrediting the army. This is reported by Sibir.Realii with reference to Filimonova herself.

It is noted that the word “Peace” from the poster was not written in the text of the court’s ruling and it was marked as “(other data)”. According to Filimonova, the trial was held on January 26 without her participation. No one informed the activist about the date and time of the meeting. No information appeared on the court’s website either. The court itself stated that they sent the telegram, but did not hand it over to Filimonova. She learned about the sentence only on February 2 from a letter sent by mail.

Filimonova held a single picket on December 31. Then she was detained by the police. According to the activist, the police twice tried to draw up a false report on her that she allegedly organized a mass event. She did not sign these documents. Filimonova also applied for a linguistic examination of the word “Peace”. In the protocol, the picketer specified that the police officer himself admitted that this word was not prohibited.

  • In April of last year, Filimonova went to the picket with a “Putin Resignation” poster, and in March with a “No War” poster. Both times she was detained by the police.
  • The administrative article on the discrediting of the Russian army appeared shortly after its invasion of Ukraine. Discreditation in Russia is considered, for example, to use the word “war” instead of “special military operation” in relation to the war in Ukraine.
  • The article provides for a fine of up to 50,000 rubles, and for repeated violations, a criminal case with a penalty of up to five years in prison is threatened. According to “Mediazona”, by mid-December, more than 5,500 cases were filed on the article about discrediting.
