The NBU expects that more people will leave Ukraine this year than return

The National Bank expects that net emigration of Ukrainians abroad will continue in 2023, and only next year more people will return to the country than leave.
Deputy Chairman of the NBU Serhii Nikolaychuk said this told in an interview with EP.
According to Nikolaychuk, in the scenarios for 2023, the regulator foresees “a small net departure of Ukrainians abroad compared to 2022.”
“We expect that 400,000 more citizens will leave than return,” he said, clarifying that this is connected with the situation in the energy sector, which complicates living conditions in certain regions, and with higher security risks.
In the coming years, as security risks decrease, the regulator expects that migrants will gradually return. At the same time, this process will be gradual and will be determined by the living conditions of people in Ukraine. In particular, the forecast of the NBU predicts that in 2024, 800,000 more citizens will return to Ukraine than will leave abroad.
