The United States is discussing with close allies the possibility of introducing new sanctions against China if Beijing provides military support to Russia to wage a full-scale war in Ukraine.

This was reported by the Reuters agency with reference to four American officials and sources, as “European Truth” writes.

US consultations with allies, which are still in their early stages, aim to enlist the support of a number of countries – particularly those in the Group of Seven – to coordinate support for any possible restrictions.

U.S. officials are laying the groundwork for potential action against China with a core group of countries most supportive of sanctions imposed on Russia after its full-scale invasion of Ukraine a year ago, Reuters spokespeople said.

It is not yet clear what kind of sanctions the United States will propose. Washington’s moves have yet to lead to broader agreement on any specific restrictive measures against Beijing, Reuters sources said.

Reuters reminds that in the joint statement of the G7 leaders on February 24 – on the occasion of the first anniversary of the full-scale war of the Russian Federation – third countries are called to “stop providing material support to the Russian war, or face serious losses.”

Although China is not mentioned there, the US on the same day imposed new sanctions against some Chinese companies accused of helping Russia circumvent the sanctions.

Earlier, the media reported that the US has intelligence that the Chinese government is considering the possibility supply of drones to Russia and ammunition for use in the war in Ukraine.

The White House said that made it clear to China behind closed doors, that in case of providing lethal aid to Russia, he will face serious consequences.
