114 thousand people signed contracts with the Ministry of Defense

114 thousand people entered the service under the contract, another 52 thousand are volunteers. This was reported by Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu during a meeting of the Security Council.

According to Shoigu, on average, 1,336 people sign contracts per day. “That is, we receive a regiment every day,” the minister said. Ot noted that because of this, “the agency does not see the need for new volunteers.”

A week ago, Russian President Vladimir Putin claimed that 150,000 people had signed contracts this year, and there are still six thousand volunteers – “enough to fulfill all combat tasks.” Who exactly Shoigu and Putin consider “volunteers” is not specified.

• Putin announced the mobilization of Russians for war with Ukraine at the end of September 2022. A little more than a month later, he announced that the mobilization was over, but he never signed the decree to that effect. Later, in response to a parliamentary request, the presidential administration confirmed that the decree on mobilization continues to apply.
• According to Shoigu, during the announced mobilization, 300 thousand people were called up for war. According to the official version, military enlistment offices have been recruiting volunteers and contract workers since November.
