At least 19 defendants in criminal cases of acts of international terrorism are in the “Lefortovo” detention center in Moscow. Most of them may be Ukrainians detained in the territories of Ukraine occupied by Russia. “Vorstka” reports this with reference to its own sources.
The publication notes that before the start of Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine, no one was tried under this article of the Criminal Code. However, after the start of the war, the Federal Security Service (FSB) began to actively use it, mainly in relation to Ukrainians detained in the territories of Ukraine occupied by Russian troops.
It is noted that the article on the act of international terrorism is the last in the Criminal Code of Russia and is adjacent to the articles on genocide and the production of weapons of mass destruction.
The lawyers of the accused told “Võrstke” that before they were brought to Moscow, their clients were interrogated and kept in isolation for a long time. The journalists report that they have become aware of the details of one of the similar criminal cases. It is connected with an unsuccessful attempt on the deputy head of the Russian administration of the annexed Kherson region of Ukraine, Kirill Stremousov, in November last year. The accused in the case is Ukrainian Yury Kayov, with whom the journalist managed to communicate with the help of lawyers. He told about the torture and beating of witnesses, which were arranged by the Russian military. Together with Kayov, eight more people are involved in this case.
Kirill Stremousov died in November last year, allegedly as a result of a road accident in the occupied part of the Kherson region. Before the invasion of the Russian army, Stremousov was a regional politician, an organizer of pro-Russian actions and held positions in local branches of Moscow-oriented political movements and parties.
