“This will support the effects of previous measures to increase the attractiveness of hryvnia assets, will allow to further ensure the stability of the foreign exchange market and form the proper prerequisites for maintaining a stable trend of reducing inflation and easing the most burdensome currency restrictions,” the National Bank said in a statement.
Let’s remind
In June, the NBU board decided to increase the discount rate from 10% per annum to 25%.
What does it mean to change the rate
A change in the discount rate is an important signal for banks to determine interest rates on deposits and loans. The higher the key rate, the more expensive loans and deposits in the national currency.
The maximum accounting rate in Ukraine was 300% (October-December 1994), and the minimum was 6% (June 2020-March 2021).
