The governor of Bala proposed to limit mass tourism for 100 years

The governor of the Indonesian island of Bali, Wayan Koster, made a proposal to limit mass tourism on the island. He proposes to introduce quotas for the number of tourists and pre-registration for the right to visit the Ball. The reason is the unpleasant behavior of tourists and their frequent violation of Indonesian laws.

At a seminar with the participation of Indonesian President Megawata Sukarnoputra, dedicated to the development prospects of Bala for the next 100 years, Koster announced that he was starting negotiations with the Indonesian Association of Hotels and Restaurants (PHRI). If quotas are introduced, those who wish to go on vacation next year will have to sign up now, the governor emphasized.

Bali is one of the most popular tourist destinations in the world. According to the governor of the island, many tourists dress and behave inappropriately, violate the peace of local residents and traffic rules. In addition, some foreigners, who came ostensibly for tourist purposes, stay in Bali for a long time and open their own business, although they do not have the right to do so.

According to Koster, since January 2023, 101 tourists have been deported from Indonesia for violating the rules of stay and other laws. 27 of them are Russian citizens. This is more than the citizens of any other country individually.
