Italy sues Gazprom over cut gas supply

The Italian state-owned company Eni has turned to arbitration in connection with the decision of Russia’s Gazprom to cut gas supplies following a full-scale invasion of Ukraine.
This is reported by “European Truth” with reference to Bloomberg.
In a document for the annual meeting of shareholders, which will be held on May 10, Eni, in response to a shareholder’s question, indicated that the reduction of gas supplies by Gazprom “is the subject of confidential arbitration.”
“Contracts with Gazprom Export (Gazprom’s gas export subsidiary – ed.) remain valid,” the answer reads. Eni declined to comment further.
Eni’s chief executive, Claudio Descalzi, told Italian media at the end of April that Russian gas supplies to Italy had dropped to almost zero.
The Italian company aims to fully to replace the volumes of Russian gas by 2025, using contracts with such gas producing countries as Algeria, Egypt, Mozambique, Congo and Qatar. Before the invasion of Ukraine, Italy imported about 40% of its gas from Russia.
Italian Industry Minister Adolfo Urso previously announced that the country plans to end its dependence on Russian gas by the end of this year.
